Purple Queen Anthias

The Purple Queen Anthias (Mirolabrichthys tuka) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe, admired for its vibrant purple and lavender coloration, delicate body structure, small size, and graceful schooling behavior. Males typically display more intense purple hues with slightly elongated fins and brighter highlights, while females/juveniles are paler with softer lavender shades and smaller, more compact bodies. They reach about 3 to 4 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 55 gallons, preferably with plenty of companions for schooling.

Provide ample live rock for hiding spots, open swimming space, and moderate water flow. Maintain stable water parameters: salinity ~1.020–1.025, temperature ~72–79°F, and pH ~8.1–8.4. A secure lid is recommended since anthias are known jumpers. Diet should consist of small meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, and high-quality marine pellets or flakes, fed frequently in small amounts. With proper care, this fish makes a beautiful and peaceful addition to reef aquariums.
