Purple Long Tentacle Anemone

The Purple Long Tentacle Anemone is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its striking purple tentacles, contrasting red to orange base, flowing movement, and symbiotic relationship with clownfish.

Males typically do not show sexual dimorphism (difficult to distinguish from females), while juveniles are smaller and lighter in color, gradually developing deeper hues as they mature.

They reach about 12–18 inches in diameter and should be housed in aquariums of at least 50–75 gallons. Provide a deep sandbed for burrowing, some live rock for anchoring, and moderate open space for expansion and flow.

Maintain stable water parameters:

   Salinity: 1.020–1.025

   Temperature: 72–79°F

   pH: 8.1–8.4

A secure lid is recommended since wandering can occur.

Diet: Feed a varied diet of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, chopped silversides, krill, and enriched marine meaty foods. They also rely on their symbiotic zooxanthellae algae for photosynthesis, so strong reef lighting is essential.

With proper care, this anemone makes a stunning and centerpiece addition to the aquarium, especially when paired with hosting clownfish.
