Pizza Anemone

The Pizza Anemone (Cryptodendrum adhaesivum).It is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its brilliant coloration, mottled “pizza-like” oral disc patterns, and unique textured tentacles that resemble small bubbles.

Males and females are not visually distinguishable (anemones are not sexually dimorphic), while juveniles appear smaller with less pronounced tentacle structure and coloration.

They reach about 12–18 inches in diameter and should be housed in aquariums of at least 75 gallons. Provide a deep sandbed and stable live rock structure for attachment, along with stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020-1.025, temp ~72-79°F, pH ~8.1-8.4). A secure lid is recommended since hosting clownfish or other tankmates may cause sudden movement or displacement.

Diet should consist of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, finely chopped seafood, and occasional meaty frozen foods, though they also harbor symbiotic zooxanthellae and gain energy from light.

With proper care, this anemone makes a standout centerpiece addition to the aquarium, though caution is advised due to its potential sting and semi-aggressive territorial behavior.
