The Pinkbar Goby (Amblyeleotris aurora) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe, admired for its slender white body adorned with bright pink horizontal bars, graceful swimming style, and intriguing burrowing behavior when paired with pistol shrimp. Its vivid coloration and natural symbiotic behaviors make it a visually striking and engaging addition to reef aquariums.
Males typically grow slightly larger, develop more vivid coloration, and may have slightly elongated fins, while females and juveniles are smaller with softer, less pronounced pink markings. They reach about 3–4 inches in length and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons.
Provide a fine sandbed for burrowing, live rock for hiding spots, and some open swimming space. Stable water parameters are essential (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid is recommended since these gobies are prone to jumping.
Diet should consist of frozen mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, finely chopped meaty foods, and high-quality sinking pellets. With proper care, the Pinkbar Goby forms a fascinating symbiotic pair with pistol shrimp and makes a colorful and interactive addition to reef aquariums.
