Pink Speckled Shrimp Goby

The Pink Speckled Shrimp Goby (Cryptocentrus leptocephalus) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its delicate pinkish body covered in tiny iridescent speckles, elegant fins, and its cooperative burrowing behavior with pistol shrimp. Its graceful movements and subtle coloration make it a visually appealing addition to reef tanks.

Males typically grow slightly larger, display more intense coloration, and may have more pronounced dorsal fins, while females and juveniles are smaller with softer, less vivid markings. They reach about 3–4 inches in length and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons.

Provide a fine sandbed for burrowing, ample live rock for hiding, and open swimming areas. Stable water parameters are crucial (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid is necessary because these gobies are prone to jumping.

Diet should consist of frozen mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, finely chopped meaty foods, and high-quality sinking pellets. With proper care, the Pink Speckled Shrimp Goby forms a captivating symbiotic pair with pistol shrimp and makes a beautiful, interactive addition to reef aquariums.
