Pinecone Fish (Monocentris japonica) – The Pinecone Fish is a rare and mesmerizing deep-water species, instantly recognizable by its armored, pinecone-like scales and glowing bioluminescent organs near the mouth. These light-producing patches create a mysterious green glow, especially in dimly lit aquariums, making them one of the most unique display fish in the hobby. Growing up to 6 inches, Pinecone Fish are slow, deliberate swimmers that thrive in peaceful, dimly lit tanks with plenty of caves and rocky hiding spaces. Their unusual appearance, gentle behavior, and bioluminescence make them a prized addition for aquarists seeking something truly out of the ordinary.

Several species will be import-to-order and may take anywhere from 3–10 business days to secure. Once your fish is secured, you will be notified, and the quarantine process will then begin.
