Phoenix Devil Damselfish

Phoenix Devil Damselfish (Plectroglyphidodon phoenixensis) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its striking black-and-white coloration with bold, contrasting patterns. Males typically display stronger territorial behavior and may exhibit slightly more intense coloration, while females and juveniles are somewhat less aggressive and often appear slightly duller in color.

They reach about 3 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons. Provide ample live rock for hiding and territory establishment, along with open swimming space, stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid since many damselfish are prone to jumping.

Diet should consist of a varied mix of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, high-quality pellets, and marine algae. With proper care, this hardy and active species makes a standout addition to the aquarium, especially for hobbyists who enjoy bold, energetic fish.
