Phantom Bannerfish

The Phantom Bannerfish (Heniochus pleurotaenia) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its striking black and white vertical bands, long flowing dorsal fin resembling a banner, graceful swimming style, and medium size. Males typically are similar in appearance to females but may display slightly more intense coloration during breeding, while females/juveniles are generally smaller with the same patterning but less vivid contrast. They reach about 8-9 inches and should be housed in aquariums of at least 100 gallons.

Provide a well-decorated tank with plenty of live rock for grazing and hiding spots, open swimming space, and a sandy substrate, stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020-1.025, temp ~72-79°F, pH ~8.1-8.4), and a secure lid since many species are prone to jumping.

Diet should consist of a varied diet including mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, marine pellets, and algae-based foods, and with proper care this fish makes a standout addition to the aquarium.
