Patzner's Sailfin Blenny

Patzner's Sailfin Blenny (Salarias patzneri) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe, admired for its intricate mottled coloration, algae-grazing behavior, expressive eyes, and unique cirri (head tentacles).

Males typically display more vivid coloration and may exhibit territorial posturing to defend prime grazing areas, while females/juveniles are usually smaller, with subtler colors and less territorial behavior.

They reach about 5 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons. Provide ample live rock for grazing and hiding spots, along with stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid since many blennies are prone to jumping.

Diet should consist of marine algae (film algae, macroalgae), spirulina-based pellets, nori sheets, and occasional supplemental foods like mysis or enriched brine shrimp.With proper care, this fish makes a standout addition to the aquarium, both as a natural algae controller and for its charismatic personality.
