Pastel Ring Wrasse

Pastel Ring Wrasse (Hologymnosus doliatus) is a rare show-stopper wrasse that demands attention. It’s reef-safe with caution, peaceful toward many tankmates but assertive when protecting territory. Juveniles begin with light bodies streaked with red horizontal bars, transitioning to females whose body develops vertical orange bars and subdued blue tones, while mature males explode in color—bluish-green body, lavender bars, pale band behind the pectorals, dramatic orange facial lines, and bold fin accents. Grows up to about 19-20 inches. Best kept in very large, mature aquariums of at least 200 gallons, with deep fine sandbeds (for burying/resting), lots of live rock for shelter and foraging, open swimming space, and a tight-fitting lid (they jump). Diet must be rich: meaty foods like crustaceans, small fishes, shrimp; offer live/frozen options and high-quality pellets to bring out full vibrancy.
