Passer Angelfish

A Fish Passer Angelfish (Holacanthus passer) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its striking deep blue body, bright yellow tail and pectoral fins, bold white vertical bar across its side, and impressive adult size.

Males typically display the same striking coloration as females, though mature adults develop a slightly bulkier body and more intense contrast in coloration, while females/juveniles show similar coloration but with less intensity, and juveniles often display a more muted version of the adult pattern with stronger vertical striping when very young.

They reach about 14 inches and should be housed in aquariums of at least 180 gallons. Provide ample live rock for grazing and hiding spots, open swimming space, and a sturdy aquascape layout, along with stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4). A secure lid is recommended since angelfish may dart quickly if startled.

Diet should consist of a varied mix of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, chopped seafood, high-quality marine angelfish pellets, marine algae, and sponge-based foods. With proper care, this fish makes a bold and long-lived centerpiece addition to large aquariums.
