Panther Goby

Panther Goby (Barbulifer pantherinus) is likely a peaceful to semi‑aggressive species (probably leaning peaceful, but may show territoriality toward its own kind) that is reef-safe with caution (should not harm corals, but may nip very small invertebrates or compete for holes).

It’s admired for its subtle spotted “panther” patterning, elongated body with barbels under the head, and modest size.

Males typically are somewhat more robust, with slightly fuller bodies and possibly more pronounced coloration or spotting, while females/juveniles are smaller, slimmer, and with slightly less contrast in patterning.

They reach about 2 inches (≈ 5.2 cm TL) in adult size.

They should ideally be housed in aquariums of at least 20 gallons (or larger, to provide stable conditions and space to roam).

Provide a substrate of fine sand, plenty of live rock with caves and crevices, moderate open swimming space, and hiding spots (e.g. rock overhangs or small caves). Ensure a secure lid or top cover because gobies are capable of jumping out if startled.

Maintain stable water parameters: Salinity: ~1.020–1.025 Temperature: ~72–79 °F (≈ 22–26 °C)  pH: ~8.1–8.4

Diet should consist of small meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, finely chopped seafood, and high‑quality sinking pellets or micro‑crustaceans.

With proper care, the Panther Goby can be a modest but elegant addition to a marine or reef aquarium, especially in a quieter community setup with small, non‑aggressive tankmates.
