Panamic Barnacle Blenny

Panamic Barnacle Blenny (Acanthemblemaria hancocki) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe, admired for its unique perching behavior, comical expressions, bold coloration, and ability to dart in and out of small rock crevices.

Males typically display brighter colors and may show territorial behavior when defending a chosen hole or crevice, while females/juveniles remain slightly duller in coloration and less territorial.

They reach about 2 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 10–20 gallons. Provide ample live rock with holes, crevices, and hiding spots, a sandbed is optional, stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid since they are prone to jumping.

Diet should consist of frozen mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, finely chopped meaty foods, and high-quality marine pellets. With proper care, this fish makes a standout addition to nano and reef aquariums, offering both utility and personality as a peaceful and hardy inhabitant.
