Pale Tail Chromis

Pale Tail Chromis (Chromis xanthura) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe, admired for its vibrant pale yellow tail, shimmering bluish-gray body, active schooling behavior, and hardy nature. Males typically become more territorial during spawning and may display slightly brighter coloration, while females/juveniles tend to have more subdued colors and remain non-aggressive. They reach about 4 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons (larger if keeping in groups).

Provide ample open swimming space with live rock for shelter and security, stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid since many species are prone to jumping.

Diet should consist of a varied mix of high-quality marine flakes or pellets, mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and occasional algae or spirulina-based foods, and with proper care this fish makes a standout addition to the aquarium.
