Pacific Sailfin Anthias

The Pacific Sailfin Anthias (Rabaulichthys sp.) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe, admired for its delicate, pastel coloration, elongated dorsal fin resembling a sail, compact size, and graceful swimming behavior. Males typically display brighter colors with a more pronounced and elongated sail-like dorsal fin, while females/juveniles tend to be slightly smaller with subtler tones and shorter fins. They reach about 2.5 to 3 inches in length and should be housed in aquariums of at least 55 gallons, ideally in harems with one male and several females.

Provide plenty of live rock for hiding spots, shaded areas, low to moderate flow, and open swimming space, with stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid to prevent jumping. Diet should consist of small meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, finely chopped seafood, and quality micro-pellets or flakes. With proper care, this fish makes a rare and elegant addition to peaceful reef aquariums.
