Orange Yellow Tip Carpet Anemone

The Orange Yellow Tip Carpet Anemone (Stichodactyla sp.) is a semi-aggressive invertebrate that is considered reef-safe with caution, admired for its vibrant orange and yellow-tipped tentacles, large carpet-like oral disc, and its unique ability to host clownfish. Unlike fish, this species does not display clear male or female differences; juveniles resemble smaller adults and reproduction most often occurs through asexual splitting, though sexual reproduction occurs in nature. They can reach about 12–24 inches across (with some specimens exceeding 30 inches) and should be housed in aquariums of at least 75–100 gallons to accommodate their size and potential movement. Provide a sandy substrate and live rock for secure attachment, strong reef lighting to support its symbiotic zooxanthellae, and stable water conditions (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temperature ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4). A secure lid is recommended, as hosted clownfish or tankmates may jump and the anemone itself may wander, potentially stinging corals. While largely photosynthetic, this anemone benefits from supplemental feeding with mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, chopped seafood, and other meaty marine foods. With proper care and stable conditions, the Orange Yellow Tip Carpet Anemone becomes a stunning centerpiece and a functional host in the reef aquarium.
