Orange Striped Goby

The Orange Striped Goby (Amblygobius decussatus) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe, admired for its vibrant orange lateral stripes, intricate body patterning, sand-sifting behavior, and relatively small size. Males typically display slightly bolder coloration and may exhibit more territorial behavior during breeding, while females/juveniles are more subtly colored and generally less territorial. They reach about 4 inches and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons.

Provide a fine sandbed for burrowing and sifting, ample live rock and hiding spots, and maintain stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), along with a secure lid, since many gobies are prone to jumping.

Diet should consist of meaty foods like mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, finely chopped seafood, copepods, and high-quality sinking pellets, as well as grazing on microfauna in the sand. With proper care, this fish makes a standout addition to the aquarium.
