Orange Stripe Shrimp Goby

The Orange Stripe Shrimp Goby (Amblyeleotris randalli) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe, admired for its slender white body marked with vivid orange horizontal stripes, striking dorsal fin, and its fascinating symbiotic relationship with pistol shrimp. Known for perching at the entrance of a burrow, this goby acts as a watchman while the shrimp digs and maintains their shared home.

Males typically grow slightly larger and may display more intense coloration and longer dorsal fins, while females and juveniles are smaller with subtler markings. They reach about 3–4 inches in length and should be housed in aquariums of at least 20–30 gallons.

Provide a fine sandbed for burrowing, plenty of live rock for cover, and open swimming areas to encourage natural behavior. Stable water parameters are crucial (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a tight-fitting lid is a must, as they are prone to jumping.

Diet should consist of frozen mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, finely chopped meaty foods, and high-quality sinking pellets. With proper care, the Orange Stripe Shrimp Goby makes a vibrant and engaging addition to reef aquariums, especially when paired with a pistol shrimp for natural symbiotic behavior.
