Orange Ridge Sea Star (Echinaster spinulosus) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its bright orange coloration, raised ridged arms, and textured surface covered with small spines. Males typically show little visual difference from females but may be slightly smaller in size, while females/juveniles appear similar in shape and coloration, though juveniles are often paler until maturity. They reach about 6β8 inches and should be housed in aquariums of at least 50 gallons.
Provide ample live rock and a mature sandbed to allow for natural foraging, along with stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020β1.025, temp ~72β79Β°F, pH ~8.1β8.4). Unlike fish, sea stars will not jump, but aquariums should still be stable and secure.
Diet should consist of film algae, detritus, small invertebrates, and supplemental feedings of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp or clam meat. With proper care, this sea star makes a standout addition to a reef or peaceful community aquarium, adding both color and unique movement.
