The Orange Lined Triggerfish (Balistapus undulatus) is an aggressive, not reef-safe species admired for its striking orange lines against a dark body, bold coloration, and strong personality.
Males are larger and more vividly colored, often displaying territorial behavior, while females and juveniles are slightly smaller with less intense coloration but remain assertive. Adults reach about 12–14 inches and should be housed in aquariums of at least 180 gallons. Their tank should include a sandbed for natural foraging, plenty of live rock and hiding spots to establish territory, open swimming areas, and a secure lid to prevent jumping.
They require stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temperature ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4) and a carnivorous diet consisting of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, high-quality marine pellets, and occasional algae. With proper care, this fish becomes a standout centerpiece in a large marine aquarium, though aggression should be considered when selecting tankmates.
