Orange Eel Pout Goby

The Orange Eel Pout Goby (Dipulus caecus) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its elongated eel-like body, subtle orange hues, and secretive burrowing behavior.

Males typically display slightly larger heads and may develop stronger coloration, while females and juveniles remain smaller with paler tones. They reach about 5–6 inches in length and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons.

Provide a deep sandbed for burrowing, plenty of live rock for hiding spots, and stable caves or crevices to mimic their natural habitat. Stable water parameters are essential (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid is recommended, as they may attempt to escape.

Diet should consist of frozen mysis, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, finely chopped meaty foods, and high-quality sinking pellets. With proper care, this fish makes a unique and fascinating addition to the aquarium, best suited for aquarists who appreciate cryptic and bottom-dwelling species.
