The Ocellate Damselfish (Pomacentrus vaiuli). It is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its vibrant blue body with a striking yellow tail, hardy nature, and active swimming behavior.Males typically display brighter colors and may become more territorial when mature, while females/juveniles tend to be slightly duller in color and less aggressive.
They reach about 3–4 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons (larger for multiple fish or mixed communities). Provide ample live rock with hiding spots, open swimming space, and a secure lid since damselfish are known jumpers.
Stable water parameters are essential: salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4. Diet should consist of a variety of foods including mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, quality pellets, and occasional algae-based foods. With proper care, this fish makes a hardy and colorful addition to the aquarium.
