Neopercularis Hogfish

The Neopercularis Hogfish (Bodianus neopercularis) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its striking coloration, bold patterns, and active personality. Males typically display brighter, more intense coloration with larger body size, while females and juveniles are often smaller and show more subdued hues, sometimes with distinct juvenile patterns that fade as they mature. They reach about 10–12 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 120 gallons.

Provide plenty of live rock for hiding spots and foraging, an open sandbed, and ample swimming space, along with stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4). A secure lid is essential, as this species may jump when startled.

Diet should consist of a varied carnivorous menu including mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, krill, chopped seafood, copepods, and high-quality marine pellets. Occasional feedings of algae-based foods can help balance nutrition. With proper care, this fish makes a striking and hardy addition to a large marine aquarium.
