Neon Green Carpet Anemone

Neon Green Carpet Anemone (Stichodactyla sp.) is a semi-aggressive species that is considered reef-safe with caution, admired for its brilliant neon-green coloration, large size, and striking oral disc with sticky tentacles that provide a natural host for clownfish.

Males are not distinguishable from females externally, and juveniles look like smaller versions of adults, gradually intensifying in color and size as they mature.

They can reach about 12–24 inches in diameter and should be housed in aquariums of at least 75–100 gallons, depending on species and size.

Provide a deep sandbed or flat stable rock surface for it to attach securely, along with strong lighting (high PAR reef lights) and moderate to strong, indirect flow. Stable water parameters are essential (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4). Unlike fish, they do not jump, but they may wander around the tank until they find a suitable spot, so coral placement and a secure aquascape are important.

Diet should consist of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, chopped silversides, krill, and other marine meaty foods. While they derive much of their nutrition from symbiotic zooxanthellae through photosynthesis, occasional target feeding helps ensure long-term health and growth.

With proper care, this anemone makes a standout centerpiece in the aquarium and may even host clownfish, adding natural symbiotic behavior to the display.
