The Neon Goby (Elacatinus oceanops) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe, admired for its striking electric-blue stripe running along a sleek black body, small size, and beneficial “cleaner” behavior. Males typically grow slightly larger and may exhibit more territorial tendencies when paired, while females and juveniles remain smaller and more passive. They reach about 2 inches in length and should be housed in aquariums of at least 10 gallons.
Provide ample live rock with small crevices and hiding spots, along with open swimming space. Maintain stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and ensure a secure lid since they may jump.
Their diet should consist of small meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, finely crushed pellets, and other high-quality prepared foods. With proper care, this tiny yet hardy fish makes a standout and functional addition to both nano and reef aquariums.
