Multibarred Shrimp Goby

Multibarred Shrimp Goby (Cryptocentrus multicinctus) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe, admired for its bold vertical striping, compact size, and symbiotic relationship with pistol shrimp. Males typically are slightly larger with more vivid coloration and may show more territorial behavior, while females/juveniles tend to be smaller and slightly duller in color. They reach about 2 inches and should be housed in aquariums of at least 10 gallons, though 20+ gallons is recommended for paired setups or if kept with a shrimp.

Provide a sandy substrate, plenty of live rock with caves or crevices, and a secure lid, as they are prone to jumping. Stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4) are essential.

Diet should consist of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, finely chopped seafood, high-quality pellets, and copepods. With proper care, this fish makes a standout addition to the aquarium, especially when paired with a compatible pistol shrimp for a fascinating display of symbiosis.
