Multi Colored Dottyback

My species/animal is a fish, the Multi Colored Dottyback (Ogilbyina novaehollandiae). It is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its striking mix of bright colors including yellows, purples, and reds, bold patterns, and relatively rare appearance in the trade. Its vivid coloration and active behavior make it a visual standout in any aquarium.

Males typically exhibit more vibrant and contrasting coloration, and may become more territorial with age, while females/juveniles tend to be smaller and slightly less colorful. They reach about 3.5 to 4 inches in length and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons, though larger tanks are ideal if housed with other semi-aggressive fish.

Provide live rock with ample hiding spots, moderate open swimming space, and stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020-1.025, temp ~72-79°F, pH ~8.1-8.4). A secure lid is essential as this species may jump, especially when startled or stressed.

Diet should consist of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, finely chopped seafood, and high-quality pellets or frozen foods. With proper care and tank management, this fish makes a colorful and charismatic addition to the marine aquarium.
