Mini Carpet Anemone

Mini Carpet Anemone (Stichodactyla tapetum) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its vibrant coloration, striking radial patterns, compact size, and ability to stay relatively small compared to other carpet anemones.

They do not have distinct male and female external traits — reproduction typically occurs via splitting (asexual reproduction), though sexual reproduction also occurs in the wild. Juveniles are miniature versions of adults, displaying bright colors and sticky tentacles from an early stage.

They reach about 4–6 inches in diameter and should be housed in aquariums of at least 20 gallons. Provide a stable rock or sandy substrate for attachment, moderate to strong lighting, and moderate flow. Stable water parameters are essential (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79 °F, pH ~8.1–8.4).

Diet should consist of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, chopped seafoods, and occasional pellets, though they also derive nutrition from their symbiotic zooxanthellae under strong reef lighting.

With proper placement and care, this anemone makes a standout centerpiece addition to a reef aquarium, though caution is needed since they may sting or consume small fish and inverts that wander too close.
