Mimic Blenny

The Mimic Blenny (Ecsenius gravieri) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe, admired for its ability to mimic fang blennies, slender body shape, subtle coloration, and fascinating behavior.

Males typically display slightly larger size with more vivid body coloration and may show territorial displays, while females/juveniles are smaller, with more subdued colors and less pronounced fin markings.

They reach about 3 inches (7–8 cm) and should be housed in aquariums of at least 20 gallons. Provide ample live rock with hiding spots and perches, stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid since many species are prone to jumping.

Diet should consist of a mix of algae-based foods (spirulina, marine algae, seaweed), supplemented with mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, and high-quality pellets. With proper care, this fish makes a standout addition to a peaceful reef aquarium, both for its mimicry behavior and hardy nature.
