The Midas Blenny (Ecsenius midas) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe, admired for its brilliant golden coloration, elongated eel-like body, and curious, active swimming behavior. Males typically display slightly more vivid coloration and may be more territorial when establishing dominance, while females/juveniles are a bit paler and less aggressive. They reach about 5–6 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons.
Provide ample live rock with hiding spots and caves alongside open swimming space, stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79 °F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid since many species are prone to jumping. Diet should consist of a mix of meaty foods (mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods) and high-quality pellets, with occasional algae or spirulina-based foods. With proper care, this fish makes a standout addition to the aquarium, both for its beauty and entertaining personality.
