Mauritian Picasso Triggerfish

Mauritian Picasso Triggerfish (Rhinecanthus cinereus), which is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its striking coloration, bold patterns, compact size, and unique angular body shape.

Males typically display slightly more vivid coloration and may be territorial, while females and juveniles tend to be smaller with more subdued markings. They reach about 8–10 inches as adults and should be housed in aquariums of at least 125 gallons. Provide a substrate with sandbed, plenty of live rock, ample hiding spots, and open swimming space, maintain stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temperature ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and ensure a secure lid since many triggerfish are prone to jumping.

Diet should consist of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, high-quality pellets, and algae, and with proper care, this fish makes a standout and visually dynamic addition to the aquarium.
