Masked Triggerfish (Sufflamen fraenatum), which is an aggressive species that is not reef-safe, admired for its striking bridled pattern across the face, robust body, and vibrant coloration.
Males typically display slightly larger size and more pronounced markings, while females and juveniles are smaller with less vivid coloration. They reach about 20 inches and should be housed in aquariums of at least 75 gallons. Provide a sandbed, plenty of live rock for hiding, and open swimming space, maintain stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020-1.025, temperature ~72-79°F, pH ~8.1-8.4), and ensure a secure lid since these fish are prone to jumping.
Diet should consist of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, and high-quality carnivore pellets, and with proper care, this fish makes a striking and standout addition to a marine aquarium.
