Maroon Clownfish (Amphiprion biaculeatus) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its deep maroon to red coloration, bold white or gold stripes, larger size compared to other clownfish, and unique dominance hierarchy. Males typically stay smaller (around 3–4 inches), are less dominant, and take on the submissive role in a pair, while females/juveniles grow larger (up to ~6 inches), become the dominant member, and can be highly territorial and aggressive. They reach about 6 inches in adulthood and should be housed in aquariums of at least 55 gallons.
Provide live rock with hiding spots, some open swimming space, and optionally a host anemone or coral substitute, stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid since many species are prone to jumping. Diet should consist of a varied mix of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, high-quality pellets, and occasional algae-based foods. With proper care, this fish makes a bold and eye-catching addition to the aquarium.
