Malenesian Blue Damselfish

The Malenesian Blue Damselfish (Chrysiptera cymatilis) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe, admired for its vibrant electric-blue coloration, compact size, and hardy nature.

Males typically display slightly brighter coloration with more pronounced intensity during territorial or breeding displays, while females and juveniles often appear a bit duller with less intense blue hues. They reach about 2.5–3 inches in length and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons (larger tanks recommended if keeping more than one due to territorial behavior).

Provide ample live rock for hiding spots and territory boundaries, a sandbed, and open swimming areas, along with stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temperature ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4). A secure lid is essential, as many damselfish are prone to jumping.

Their diet should consist of a variety of foods such as mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, quality marine pellets, and some algae-based foods. With proper care, this fish makes a hardy and colorful standout addition to reef and community aquariums.
