Madagascar Flasher Wrasse

Madagascar Flasher Wrasse (Paracheilinus hemitaeniatus) is one of the rarest and most stunning flasher wrasses available, often called the “Holy Grail Flasher” for good reason — it comes only from Madagascar (and adjacent coastal zones), has barely been seen in trade, and commands sky-high respect among collectors. Males blaze with orange bodies streaked with blue horizontal lines, blue speckling on fins, and grow a bit over 4-6 inches (females are subtler in color and lack the long dorsal filaments). It thrives in well-established reef systems of at least 75-100 gallons, with deep fine sand, lots of live rock and caves for hiding, stable tropical marine conditions (SG about 1.022-1.026; temp 72-82°F; pH 8.1-8.5), and a tightly covered lid since this species is prone to jumping, especially when startled. Diet must be carnivorous and rich — small meaty foods, frozen mysis/brine, finely chopped seafood, and specialty wrasse preparations. Because it’s so rare, every specimen is a trophy; when you get one, you’re not just adding a fish — you’re owning a display piece that very few people ever see.
