Madagascar Clownfish

My species/animal is a fish — the Madagascar Clownfish (Amphiprion latifasciatus). It is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe and admired for its bold black body with two wide white vertical bands, contrasting orange/yellow face and tail, and its rarity in the aquarium trade.

Males typically remain smaller, averaging around 3–4 inches, and are less dominant, while females/juveniles grow larger, up to 5–6 inches, with females becoming the dominant member of the pair.

They reach about 5–6 inches (adult size) and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons (preferably 40+ for pairs). Provide ample live rock for hiding, a sandy substrate, and space for swimming; they often thrive when paired with a suitable host anemone but can adapt without one.

Maintain stable water parameters: salinity ~1.020–1.025, temperature 72–79°F, pH 8.1–8.4, and a secure lid since clownfish may occasionally jump.

Diet should consist of a varied mix of mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, high-quality pellets, and some marine algae or spirulina-based foods. With proper care, this fish makes a standout addition to any reef or fish-only aquarium thanks to its striking appearance and fascinating behavior.
