Lyretail Anthias

The Lyretail Anthias, Female (Pseudanthias squamipinnis) is a peaceful to semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe, admired for its vivid orange coloration, schooling behavior, and graceful swimming movements. Males typically display more intense coloration with reddish to purplish tones, elongated dorsal and caudal fins, and larger body size, while females/juveniles are smaller, bright orange, and less ornate. They reach about 5–6 inches and should be housed in aquariums of at least 70–90 gallons, with larger tanks recommended for harems or groups.

Provide ample live rock with caves and hiding spots, along with open swimming space to replicate their natural reef slope environment. Stable water parameters are essential (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid is recommended, as anthias are prone to jumping.

Their diet should consist of frozen mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, finely chopped seafood, and high-quality micro pellets, offered in several small feedings per day to match their high metabolic needs. With proper care, the Lyretail Anthias (Female) is a colorful, active, and reef-compatible species that brings life and movement to the aquarium.
