Lumphead Rockskipper Blenny

Lumphead Rockskipper Blenny [Istiblennius sp.] is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its unique head shape, bold personality, ability to perch on rocks, and mottled coloration that helps it camouflage against reef and rocky environments. Males typically develop more pronounced head crests and territorial behaviors, while females/juveniles are smaller, less vividly patterned, and generally more subdued in appearance. They reach about 5–6 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 55 gallons.

Provide a sandbed with plenty of live rock, crevices, and hiding spots, along with open perching areas. Stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4) are essential, and a secure lid is required since many species are prone to jumping.

Diet should consist of algae (grazing from rocks), spirulina-based pellets, mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, and other meaty supplements, ensuring variety to keep them healthy. With proper care, this fish makes a hardy, active, and standout addition to the aquarium.
