Lottini Pistol Shrimp

The Invertebrate Lottini Pistol Shrimp (Alpheus lottini) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its large snapping claw, intricate body patterns, and fascinating burrowing behavior.

Males typically have a slightly larger snapping claw used for defense and communication, while females/juveniles are smaller, less aggressive, and more cryptic in appearance. They reach about 2–3 inches and should be housed in aquariums of at least 20 gallons.

Provide a deep sandbed for burrowing, plenty of live rock for hiding, and open swimming areas, stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid since these shrimp are prone to jumping.

Diet should consist of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, and high-quality pellets, and with proper care, this shrimp makes a captivating and dynamic addition to a reef or marine aquarium.
