Lori's Anthias

The Lori's Anthias (Pyronotanthias lori) is a peaceful to semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe, admired for its vivid pink to orange body with subtle yellow highlights, delicate fin extensions, and schooling behavior that adds dynamic movement to reef tanks. Males typically exhibit more intense coloration, elongated dorsal and caudal fins, and a dominant presence within the harem, while females and juveniles are smaller, slightly paler, and more inclined to stay in tight shoals. They reach about 3–4 inches in length and should be housed in aquariums of at least 70 gallons, ideally with one male and several females to replicate natural social dynamics.

Provide abundant live rock with crevices for shelter, a large open swimming area for midwater schooling, and a secure lid, as anthias are active swimmers prone to jumping. Maintain stable water parameters: salinity ~1.020–1.025, temperature ~72–79°F, and pH ~8.1–8.4.

Their diet should consist of mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, finely chopped meaty foods, and high-quality carnivorous marine pellets or flakes, fed multiple times per day due to their high metabolism. With proper care, Lori's Anthias makes a stunning and energetic centerpiece for reef aquariums, enhancing both color and activity in the midwater regions.
