The Longlegged Spiny Lobster (Panulirus longipes) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its elongated legs, striking spiny antennae, dark brown and cream banded patterns, and large size. Males typically have longer and thicker antennae and more robust claws, while females and juveniles tend to be slightly smaller with less pronounced antennae and more muted coloration. They reach about 10-12 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 75 gallons. Provide a sandy substrate with extensive live rock formations and plenty of hiding spots, stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020-1.025, temperature ~72-79°F, pH ~8.1-8.4), and a secure lid since many lobsters are prone to climbing or jumping. Diet should consist of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, and specialized pellets, and with proper care, this lobster makes a unique and impressive addition to the aquarium.
