Lineatus Clown Tang

Lineatus Clown Tang (Acanthurus lineatus) is an aggressive species that is reef-safe as it poses no threat to corals or most invertebrates, focusing primarily on algae grazing. This spectacular species displays a vibrant blue body with distinctive bright yellow horizontal stripes running along the length of its body, creating one of the most striking color combinations in the tang family, plus the characteristic sharp spine (scalpel) at the base of the tail. The bold blue and yellow striping makes it instantly recognizable and one of the most sought-after tangs for its stunning appearance. It can reach about 15 inches in adult size. Best kept in tanks of at least 150 gallons or more due to their substantial size and highly aggressive nature toward other tangs, with plenty of live rock for grazing, strong water flow, excellent water quality, and serious consideration for their territorial behavior that often requires them to be the only tang in the system. Its diet should include a mix of marine algae—nori sheets, spirulina, dried seaweed, algae pellets—as well as high-quality herbivore foods and occasional meaty supplements like mysis shrimp, as this primarily herbivorous species requires constant access to plant matter and benefits from varied nutrition to maintain their brilliant blue and yellow coloration and support their aggressive, active lifestyle.
