Lime Mantis Shrimp

The Invertebrate Lime Mantis Shrimp (Gonodactylaceus sp.) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its vivid lime-green coloration, striking patterns, and powerful raptorial claws capable of impressive strikes.

Males typically display more intense coloration and larger claws used in territorial displays, while females/juveniles tend to be slightly smaller with less pronounced coloration but still retain their characteristic lime hue. They reach about 4–6 inches and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons.

Provide a deep sandbed, plenty of live rock for burrowing and hiding, and some open swimming space. Maintain stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and ensure a secure lid since many species are prone to jumping.

Diet should consist of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, small crustaceans, and pellets designed for carnivorous invertebrates, and with proper care this species makes a vivid, fascinating, and standout addition to the aquarium.
