Lamarck's Angelfish, Male

The Lamarck’s Angelfish, Male (Genicanthus lamarck) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe, admired for its striking horizontal black striping, contrasting white body, graceful swimming behavior, and unique sexual dimorphism.

Males typically display more pronounced and bolder horizontal striping along the body with elongated tail streamers, giving them a more striking appearance compared to females. Females and juveniles are generally smaller and exhibit subtler patterns without the extended fins.

They reach about 7 inches in length and should be housed in aquariums of at least 125 gallons. Provide ample live rock for grazing and hiding, open swimming space, and a secure lid since they are known jumpers. Stable water parameters are essential: salinity ~1.020–1.025, temperature ~72–79°F, and pH ~8.1–8.4.

Diet should consist of a varied mix including mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, high-quality marine pellets, and algae-based foods. With proper care, the Lamarck’s Angelfish makes a hardy and elegant addition to reef aquariums, coexisting peacefully with most other tankmates.
