Lagoon Shrimp Goby

The Lagoon Shrimp Goby (Cryptocentrus cyanotaenia) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe, admired for its striking blue and yellow coloration, elongated body, and its symbiotic relationship with alpheid shrimp. Males typically have brighter colors and more pronounced markings, while females and juveniles tend to be paler and smaller with less intense coloration. They reach about 4 to 5 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons.

Provide a fine sandbed with plenty of live rock and hiding spots, especially for burrowing shrimp partners, and open swimming space. Maintain stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020-1.025, temp ~72-79°F, pH ~8.1-8.4), and ensure a secure lid since this species can be prone to jumping. Diet should consist of meaty foods like mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, and high-quality pellets or frozen preparations. With proper care, the Lagoon Shrimp Goby makes a standout and fascinating addition to reef and marine aquariums.
