Kaleido's Wrasse

Kaleido’s Wrasse (Pseudojuloides kaleidos) is a delicate, reef-safe pencil wrasse prized for its shifting hues and slender elegance. Males may show a striking blue “nose” region, shifting body tones of green, pink, or salmon, with a yellow caudal fin base; females and juveniles tend to appear more muted with soft pink/orange and gentle striping. It reaches about 4.5 inches (10 cm) full adult size. Best housed in mature aquariums of 40–50 gallons or more, equipped with deep fine sand for burrowing/resting, plentiful live rock and rubble for hiding and foraging, stable reef water (SG ~1.020-1.025; temp ~73–79°F; pH ~8.1-8.4), and a secure lid (wrasses can jump). Diet should focus on small meaty items—copepods, mysis, brine shrimp, and enriched frozen foods—gradually trained to accept prepared meals. This species is considered expert level due to sometimes finicky feeding habits and sensitivity to acclimation, so patience and perfect conditions are key.
