Comb Coris Wrasse (Coris picta) is a striking species that is semi-aggressive and reef-safe with caution; prized for its dramatic, clean lines and unique “comb-stripe” pattern. It features a long white body with a broad black stripe running from the mouth through the eye to the tail—its lower edge scalloped like a comb, giving it its common name. In breeding or display mode, parts of the stripe may fade or shift. Grows to about 10 inches in adult size. Best kept in tanks of at least 150 gallons, with deep fine sandbed, plenty of live rock for hiding and foraging, secure cover since it is a jumper, and stable water parameters. Diet should include hard-shelled crustaceans, small invertebrates, and meaty fare like frozen mysis, brine shrimp, plus high-quality pellets once acclimated. Rare and showy, this wrasse makes a centerpiece that stands out in any saltwater display.
