Japanese Lunate Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus lunatus) is a reef-safe fish with a peaceful temperament that brings elegance and vivid color to any display. Males reach about 5 inches, flashing bright orange, yellow, and subtle green with the species’ signature crescent-shaped tail; females and juveniles are softer, mostly orange with more muted tones and less intense tail patterning. Best kept in tanks of 50+ gallons, with fine sand substrate for burrowing at night, plentiful live rock for hiding and foraging, stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020-1.025, temperature ~72-79°F, pH ~8.1-8.4), shaded spots away from overly strong lighting, and a tight lid since wrasses like this are prone to jumping. Its diet should include live copepods and other small crustaceans, frozen mysis & brine shrimp, and high-quality marine pellets once acclimated. Because of its limited availability and sensitivity, this is a premium specimen for aquarists who demand excellence.
