Jansen's Wrasse

Jansen’s Wrasse (Thalassoma jansenii) is a bold and highly active wrasse species that adds both motion and vibrant contrast to large aquariums. Juveniles are marked with clean black and white bars along the body, while adults develop vivid blues and greens with a bright yellow tail, making them instantly recognizable. Growing to about 9 inches, this wrasse requires a spacious aquarium of at least 150 gallons, with wide open swimming areas, rocky structures for shelter, and a sandy substrate. Like many in its genus, it is semi-aggressive and best housed with other strong, assertive tankmates, making it better suited to FOWLR or large predator systems rather than delicate reef aquariums, as it may consume small invertebrates. A secure lid is a must, as they are strong jumpers. Their diet should be meaty and varied—mysis, brine shrimp, krill, clams, chopped seafood, and high-quality frozen or pellet foods to keep up with their energy and enhance coloration.
