Jaguar Goby

The Jaguar Goby (Astrabe sp.) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its striking jaguar-like spotted patterns, robust body, and vibrant yellow and black coloration. Males typically display brighter colors and may be more territorial, often showing dominance behaviors, while females and juveniles have softer, less vivid coloration and are generally more passive. They reach about 4 to 5 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 50 gallons.

Provide a deep sandbed for burrowing, plenty of live rock for hiding spots and territorial boundaries, and ample open swimming space, along with stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020-1.025, temp ~72-79°F, pH ~8.1-8.4), and a secure lid since this species can be a jumper. Diet should consist of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, and high-quality pellets or frozen preparations. With proper care, this goby makes a standout addition to larger reef or marine aquariums, offering both striking visuals and interesting behavior.
